§ Holy Spirit coeternal with god and Christ
The Holy Spirit was present in the creation. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Gen. 1: 1.) Here “God” in the original is in the plural: this means that there was a plurality of-divine beings “in the beginning” when the “heaven and the earth” were created; it means that the Godhead was present and participated in the creation. God the Creator was present, the Word or Christ was present, and the Holy Spirit was present.

§ Names for Godhead
It is wise to speak of things as the Bible speaks of them; it is right to speak of the divine persons as the Bible speaks of them; then, and only then, can we know that we are using the correct terms. However, man has coined other words as synonyms, titles, and names for some of the persons and things that belong to God. In a complete study of the Holy Spirit and the Godhead, it is necessary to notice some of the names that man has given, to the Godhead.

§ Godhead composed of three members
There are three members of the Godhead. Standing first always in the triune divinity is God. He is the Creator, Jehovah, the Almighty, Lord God, and Father. He is revealed to us in the Bible as supreme in wisdom, power, love, mercy, and justice; he is the Creator of the universe; he is the great Planner and Designer of the universe; he is supreme in authority and the Sovereign Ruler of the universe. In the spiritual realm he is the Father of our spirits. We are taught to address him as “our Father who art in heaven.” He stands related to us as the God and Father of his people. He is a Spirit, or spiritual being; it is in him, or by his grace and mercy, that we live and have our being. He is always placed at the head of the list of the divine family. God is not only a being; he is a spiritual being; he is a divine personality; he is a divine, speaking personality with all power and wisdom. He must be regarded as such. He is always referred to in the masculine gender and with a personal pronoun.

§ Information about the Holy Spirit
The twentieth century should place equal emphasis on the third member of the Godhead. A plea is here made, not that God should receive less emphasis, neither that Christ should not be made as prominent in Christian thinking, but that the Holy Spirit should receive due emphasis in the revelation of God to man, and be brought out of the fog and obscurity into the sunlight of Bible truth as revealed in the book of God.
