The Holy Spirit as a member of the Godhead is associated in all divine acts with God and the Word. Such association and relationship necessarily imply a likeness in nature and a similarity in attributes. The Holy Spirit associates with God and Christ as a divine being. We cannot think of a mere force or inanimate thing as being companionable with God. Man had sweet communion and fellowship with God before he sinned. (Gen. 3: 8.)

He has divine attributes

The New Testament speaks of the Holy Spirit as having at tributes that belong to the other members of the Godhead. The Holy Spirit has a mind. "He that searched the hearts know what is the mind of the Spirit." (Rom. 8: 27.) He empowers Peter on the day of Pentecost to preach the first gospel sermon (Acts 2: 1-18.) At different times he inspired Peter, James, John and Paul to write various books of the New Testament. All these actions indicate thought and a mind. The fact that the Holy Spirit has the attribute of volition is emphasized in the index pendent choice that the Holy Spirit makes. (Acts 16: 7.)

The doctrine of the Godhead is revealed only in the Bible; no one can learn of Christ the Savior or the Holy Spirit from nature. Only those who will patiently study the Bible with desire to know teachings concerning Spirit will ever know the Holy Spirit in the Bible and the Godhead. The teachings of the Godhead lie at the very heart of revealed truth; this teaching is the center from which all other tenets radiate. The doctrine concerning the Godhead embodies truth which never has been discovered, and is indiscoverable by natural reason; we are department upon revealed truth for all that we may know about it. With all the searching that man has been able to do, he has not been able to find out anything of the Godhead save what has been revealed in the Bible.

The first mention made of God in the Bible is that he is the Creator; God has always existed; he is eternal. Material things or matter is not eternal God has always existed and he has brought the material universe into existence; he is the Originator, Creator, and Founder of this material universe; it came into being by his fiat.

The Holy Spirit has had a very definite and distinct part it the creation of the material universe; his work as a member of the Godhead in the creation has received very little attention It is as important to understand his work in this sphere as it is in any other sphere; with a clear understanding of his work we may cooperate in a more intelligent way. The function of the Holy Spirit is as abroad in the universe as is the work of God. The Godhead has created the cosmos as it now appears. The Holy Spirit has functioned with God, the Creator in all of his work. It is to appear in this study that the work of the Holy Spirit in the material world is as great as in the spiritual realm. If we understand his work in this realm, we may the better understand it in the redemption of man.

Names of the Holy Spirit

Each member of the Godhead, being a distinct person, has different names and titles in the Bible. There are many names for God, such as Lord, Jehovah, Almighty, Father, Lord God, Jehovah God, Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, etc. All of these names describe some attribute or phase of character of God.
